Community organizations offer plenty of choices for activity and getting to know your neighbors in McDowell County. Health and fitness, service clubs, senior and youth groups, historical organizations, hunting and fishing clubs, veterans groups and others are open to volunteers, members and newcomers. Q. What is Newcomers and Friends?
A. An organization for newcomers and other residents of McDowell County which extends a friendly community welcome and promotes lasting friendships.
Q. When and where are meetings held?
A. 2nd Tuesday of month, September - May. Location varies: Call 652-4240.
Q. What programs are presented?
A. Noon luncheon followed by presentations on a wide range of topics, e.g.: health, fashion, education, community issues, crafts, entertainment, and others. Also, an annual auction is held.
Q. Other activities?
A. Yes - several interest groups which meet at members' homes. Samples are: · Arts/crafts · Trips · Exercise · Supper clubs · Bridge
Q. Activities which include husbands/guests?
A. During the year, various events include husbands or other guests, such as parties, pot-luck suppers and family picnics.
Q. Who may become a member?
A. Any resident of McDowell County. Visitors are always welcome!
