From the crystal waters of Lake James to the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, we are proud of McDowell County’s natural beauty, low cost-of-living, lack of congestion, and can-do community spirit. Uniquely situated amid 67,000 acres of undisturbed forest land yet close to major cities, McDowell County offers an energetic and growing commercial sector, a budding agri-tourism industry, and a range of events and activities in which to partake.
The Chamber works closely with local and regional governments, area business owners, and community organizations to support economic growth and encourage community involvement. Since 1957, we have been working to create a community that respects its history and natural resources while utilizing innovative ideas and practices to move boldly into the future. Whether you’re here on vacation, looking to relocate, or just passing through, we invite you to explore McDowell County’s past and present and encourage you to develop your own list of favorite pastimes. Please drop by the Visitor’s Center to let us know how we can help you make your local adventures even more memorable.
Local campground offers beautiful creekside yurts
Yurts are popping up all over the country in resort towns and are heralded as the way to camp. Some are even advocating living fulltime in a yurt as the new tiny home. Now visitors and residents can experience the adventure of a yurt-getaway at Mountain Stream RV Park in one of their three brand new models.
Make sure you negotiate a good deal on your next commercial lease.
Opening a new business or moving an existing one is exciting and fearful at the same time. But you're ready! You have a solid business plan (because you took the Marion GEM Class), you've done your market research, and you've saved plenty of capital for operating expenses. You've found the perfect location with a price you can afford and are eager to sign that lease and move in.
Customers, friends, vendors, and more show outpouring of respect.
It's not just a paycheck, it's an investment in yourself and your community.
